Dreaming of Giants

Size: 20” x 16” Oil on 7/8″ Gallery Wrapped Canvas
The original painting along with fine art prints will be available on Saturday, October 4th, at 9:00 am CST

This week’s painting features a child standing barefoot at the edge of a luminous wall of water, her pajamas soft and simple, her stuffed whale toy hanging loosely at her side. A massive humpback glides effortlessly through the glowing blue, its form both powerful and peaceful. The girl reaches upward, meeting the whale in a quiet gesture that feels both serene and timeless.

I have been wanting to paint whales ever since experiencing them in the ocean near Maui a couple of years ago. I fell absolutely in love with these gentle giants, completely amazed not only by seeing them but also by hearing their haunting sounds while swimming in the sea. That memory has stayed with me and continues to inspire my work. If you have ever been to the Maui Ocean Center’s 3D presentation, you know just how moving it can be. If you are visiting the area, I can only say go – it is an incredible experience!
