This week’s painting pairs well with the first day of summer: a bold red pair of cat-eye sunglasses and two tiny ladybugs, perfectly matched in color and mood. I’ve been enjoying pairing man-made objects with little glimpses of wildlife and this one came together like it was meant to. A quiet moment of warmth, light, and the kind of stillness that feels like summer. May the season bring you small joys… and maybe a few ladybugs, too 🙂

This painting features a pair of rabbits sitting at a windowsill, paws resting gently on a terra cotta pot overflowing with four-leaf clovers. Morning light spills through the window behind them, and the scene is full of quiet, leafy warmth—potted plants trailing from all directions, soft shadows catching along their fur.
When I first painted it, one of the rabbits was holding a small watering can. The idea was that he was tending to the clovers—kind of whimsical, kind of sweet. It made sense at the time.
But after letting the piece sit for nearly a year, I realized the watering can just didn’t feel right. It distracted from the stillness, the simplicity. So I went back in and made a few changes.
I painted over the watering can, added more clovers to fill out the pot, and adjusted a few highlights and shadows here and there. Small things – but they brought the painting into balance. Now, the scene feels more focused. Quieter. Like the moment it’s capturing was always meant to be this way.
Sometimes, all a piece needs is a little breathing room.

This week’s painting features two green and a green glossy green mug – one boldly perched on the rim, the other curiously eyeing the climb. A quiet little moment of mischief and hesitation.

I’ve wanted to paint this sweet little duo for a while – a glowing gummy bear and a cheerful honey bear bottle. Their warm, happy colors just felt like sunshine.
I staged them with dramatic light to play up their reflections and glow. And yes, gummy bears were harmed in the making of this piece – my husband and I may have eaten most of the props.

This painting features a single Granny Smith apple next to a paring knife. I was drawn to the crisp green of the apple and the way the light reflected off the metal blade. It’s a simple setup, but one that allowed me to focus on form, texture, and contrast. I also didn’t mind enjoying the apple when I was done with it! With peanut butter of course… 😉

This painting features a cup of tea on a saucer, with a spoon and two lemons, all set under dramatic lighting. I was drawn to the contrast between the bright yellow lemons and the deep shadows, and the way the light reflected off the surfaces. It was a fun study in color, light, and composition.

This week’s painting features a simple glass jar filled with freshly cut crabapple blossoms, capturing the delicate beauty of spring. The Spring Snow crabapple trees are in full bloom right now, and their sweet, floral scent fills the air everywhere you go. I couldn’t resist painting them!
