I’ve wanted to paint this sweet little duo for a while – a glowing gummy bear and a cheerful honey bear bottle. Their warm, happy colors just felt like sunshine.
I staged them with dramatic light to play up their reflections and glow. And yes, gummy bears were harmed in the making of this piece – my husband and I may have eaten most of the props.

This painting features a single Granny Smith apple next to a paring knife. I was drawn to the crisp green of the apple and the way the light reflected off the metal blade. It’s a simple setup, but one that allowed me to focus on form, texture, and contrast. I also didn’t mind enjoying the apple when I was done with it! With peanut butter of course… 😉

This painting features a cup of tea on a saucer, with a spoon and two lemons, all set under dramatic lighting. I was drawn to the contrast between the bright yellow lemons and the deep shadows, and the way the light reflected off the surfaces. It was a fun study in color, light, and composition.

I never get tired of painting pb&js! This week’s painting features a nostalgic nod to comfort food – this piece captures the joyful chaos of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in all its gooey glory. Sliced diagonally and atop one another, the sandwich oozes with rich peanut butter and vibrant jelly, set atop a vivid turquoise plate that makes the colors pop. Dramatic, directional lighting creates striking contrast and bold shadows, adding intensity to an otherwise playful scene.
